Latest Obsessions...

ALDO Shoe Inserts- As many of you know, I like to wear heels no matter what I am doing. Well apparently I am getting old because my feet begin to hurt a lot sooner than they used to and I tend to change into flip flops half way through the day because I can no longer walk. For my birthday in February my cute mom got me some new shoes from ALDO, but I couldn’t wear them for even ½ an hour without them killing my feet. I went into the ALDO store (one of the many perks of working at the Gateway) and found these babies. They are seriously awesome and are my new favorite thing. They are made of terrycloth and fit in any close toed shoe. They also don’t need to be taped down so you can pull them out and put into another shoe or wash them in your washing machine. I now have a pair for the three shoes I wear most and am OBSESSED. I HIGHLY recommend them and they are only $7.00! Some tips about them though, buy a size smaller than you are and they will feel weird at first, but they will squish down. LOVE Coming Back Stronger- This book was written by Drew Brees after the Saints won the super bowl in 2009. I have always said Drew Brees is the classiest person in sports (he is a Sigma Chi after all) and this book just solidified it. The story he writes is a lot about football, but the underlying message throughout the book is finding opportunity in adversity and how important your relationship with God is. This was a great book for both Mike and I to read as we go through our struggle with infertility and helped to remind us that we will find the good in this situation and prevail. I also loved the way he talked about New Orleans, all he has done to help the city recover from Katrina and how much the city saved him. To me, New Orleans isn’t just a city, it is part of my being and I feel more alive when I am down there and I love that he has found his home down there as well.

The Hunger Games Series- I have been dying to read this series for a few years and finally had a chance to during our trip to Mexico. It’s a very intriguing story, a quick read and thoroughly entertaining. Mike even liked it and finished the series before me. If you are looking for a good read, I highly recommend them and can’t wait until the movie comes out.

Bath Rug- Mike and I went to Target looking for baby girl clothes for Miss Brittney and stumbled upon this beautiful bath rug. I have been looking for the perfect master bath rug for two years and I absolutely love it. It really brightens up our bathroom and I get happy every time I see it. Now I just need to find some complimenting towels and other pieces and our bathroom will be complete! Covergirl Amazement Wetslicks Lipshine- I have been telling my friend Jill about the Wetslicks Lipshine for a while because we both hate wearing anything sticky or makeup tasting on our lips. I love the Wetslicks because they are super smooth, have great colors and I forget I am wearing anything. Well when Jill went to go get herself some she found the Amazement Wetslicks, which is Wetslicks with a hint of Crest Peppermint Oil to provide a minty-breath sensation. Seriously Genius. A GOOD Bra fitting- So this may be TMI but a few weeks ago after getting my hair done and having a few hours to kill, I wandered into Victoria’s Secret. I went in to exchange something but as I was trying things on I heard one of the employees doing a bra fitting. I have had a few done in the past but never a good one, so I never really took their advice. This girl really knew what she was talking about so I decided to have one done by her. Little did I know I have been wearing the wrong size for 2+ years and when she put me in the right size, it did wonders for my comfort and my physique. All women should have one done once a year, especially after pregnancy. It only takes 2 minutes and at Victoria’s Secret it is free.

Lady Gaga- We had the opportunity to attend the Lady Gaga show a few weeks ago with Chris and Matt (thank-you!) and I am kind of obsessed with her now. She is truly a performer and her concert was fabulous!!! What I really like about her though is how outspoken and proactive she is about important issues, especially gay rights. During her concert she stated multiple times that it’s ok to be different, that you should embrace it and that God made you the way you are and you should be proud of it. Chris, one of my dearest friends is gay and has been treated poorly all throughout life because of it, which angers me to no end. I do not believe being gay is a choice at all, and think it’s disgusting how we treat the gay community and the rights we take away from them. I love that there is an amazing pop star that not only sticks up for these important issues, but also donates money to all sorts of causes, including homeless shelters for the GLBT community and AIDS foundations all while raising money for the relief effort in Japan. She truly is an inspiration and while she is eccentric and a bit over the top, she gets her message heard and is making a difference in our world.

Shellac- On a whim the other day, I decided to take off my nails for the second time in 12 years and try out the new shellac craze. I have had them on for a week and am really enjoying how short my nails are and the freedom not having my nails on has provided. For those of you who don’t know about shellac, it’s a gel-based polish that doesn’t chip and will stay on for 3 weeks, so it’s a lot less maintenance than regular polish. I have had my nails on for years because I have weird nails that won’t hold polish, so shellac has been great. I am looking forward to having some fun with my nails and keeping them short for a bit, even if Mike misses my long nails. If you want to get them done, call Hannie at 801.898.2390. Café Normandie treats- Chris has been SPOILING us with lots of Easter treats from Café Normandie and they are delicious. I am normally not a cookie and dessert lover, but their cookies are insanely yummy, especially their butter cream frosting cookies, wedding cookies and oreo bites. Not only are they tasty, they are super cute and are available for all year long for various holidays. I wish I had some pics but we couldn’t wait to devour our goodies. If you want to try them out they are located at 1984 Murray Holladay Road. I hear they have fabulous lunches and dinners as well and I can’t wait to try them out! EX Wives Design- A few years ago all of the EX wives decided to get together for a brunch while the boys golfed at their annual Sigma Chi Alumni Banquet. It’s turned into quite a fun event and we decided that since the boys got trinkets and shirts from Sigma Chi, we wanted them too. This year cute Miss Rachel designed our tank top design and I am in love! I can’t wait to rock my EX tank because as you all know, I really love love love being an EX wife. Girls Weekend

Tonight I am braving the yucky weather and heading to Logan to spend the weekend with my absolute favorite girls and to celebrate the impending arrival of Baby Girl Nielsen.

Miss Annie, Britt and Rache Cute Liz and Pierce who were living out of state when the above pic was taken.I have said it a thousand times, but I will say it again, I am so glad to have EX in my life and that all the guys married incredible women who I am lucky enough to call my dearest friends. I am looking forward to a weekend of chatting, laughing, eating, catching up, visiting my favorite Logan spots, playing with the cutest kids ever, some girl time with these amazing friends and spoiling Brittney and baby. This is the first baby girl in our group of EX wives, so you better believe I went crazy with the baby girl clothes! Target seriously has the CUTEST stuff ever and I can’t wait until it’s time for me to shop for my own. I don’t think Mike and my wallet are though!

Olive and Cocoa...

Today when I got into work, I had a catalogue from Olive and Cocoa in my mailbox with the above photo on the cover. I am IN love with peonies, because they remind me of spring and of the most amazing day of my life, so this totally made my Friday. In fact, I actually cut out the picture and hung it above my desk to remind myself that spring is coming and peonies will be in full bloom soon. I actually planted peonies in my yard when we moved in and I am looking forward to seeing if they will bloom this year and having fresh cut peonies in my house for a few months.

My amazing friend Chris sent me a floral arrangement from Olive and Cocoa for my birthday and they have the most unique and gorgeous floral arrangements I have ever seen. They are pretty pricey but I love looking at the beauty they create and they have a lot of other gifts and home decor besides flowers. You can visit their website here. Walk MS 2011!

It is that time of year again; the time we walk to fight MS! This year our journey to find a cure became even more important with the addition of our newest little Lucky 13, Miss Sawyer Lee Bowers. She was born November 9th to Seth and Jess, who are our main motivation in this fight. How cute is this little buggie?!?

This year I want to remind you that the research done to find a cure doesn’t only affect those who have already been diagnosed, but those who haven’t yet heard the words, “you have MS” but will, as well as the family and children of those who do. Donating to this cause helps keep the research going and the hope alive for people like Seth, Jess and Sawyer. If a cure can be found or new medications can be developed, Sawyer hopefully will never have to know her dad in a wheelchair or see him suffer from vertigo or debilitating eye problems.

Doggie Jail...

Mr. Semper was a naughty dog while we were in Mexico and he landed in doggie jail until April 8, 2011. The story is that my parents were watching them and the day before we got home my step-dad accidentally left their dog door open. Mekah and Semper being the smart doggies they are figured out it was open and took off for a day of adventure. Unfortunately that landed them on Wasatch Blvd and almost got them both hit by a car. The nice lady that almost hit them pulled over to try and get them out of the road. Miss Mekah of course jumped in the car with her because she is the friendliest, neediest dog ever, but Mr. Semper was pretty standoffish and didn’t want to go to her. The lady called animal control, but while she was waiting tried to get him again by grabbing his collar. This scared Semper and he nipped her hand, breaking the skin. When animal control arrived they finally were able to catch him but state law requires that he remains quarantined for 10 days. Semper and Mekah were both taken down to the shelter and Miss Mekah was able to be bailed out, but Semper had to stay. He is on day 5 of his solitary confinement and Mike was able to go visit him yesterday and bring him his bed. . We really appreciate that the woman stopped to help them, but wish she would have just let animal control do their job because he has never bitten anyone before and he wouldn’t have had to stay at the shelter if animal control had just caught him.

Lessons to be learned from this: Make sure your pets are registered in the city you live in, that their shots are up to date and that you don't only list your numbers on their collar, but if you have family members that are watching them, that their number and address be listed too, especially if you are out of the country. If my mom's number or address had been on their collars and they had been able to get a hold of someone, they probably wouldn't have ended up in the shelter. It may also be a good idea to call animal control in the city your pets are staying in and letting them know you will be traveling in case your pet is brought in. May save you some heartache and frustration. Luckily both our dogs are chipped, are current on their shots and are registered in Murray, so that saved us a BIG fine. Semper's little outing still cost about $100.oo though!

As naughty as Semper can be, we sure miss our little man and can’t wait for him to come home on Friday!

R and R...

We got back from Mexico last week and it was exactly the vacation we needed. It was perfect weather and we spent the days eating, reading, sleeping, drinking, taking in the sun and getting some much needed R and R. It was nice to be without internet or phones for an entire week and just be us without interruption. We are normally so busy so it was nice to actually get a chance to breathe, not use an alarm clock, not have to cook or clean and I came back feeling reenergized, well rested and five pounds heavier. We didn’t leave the resort and we managed to not even take one picture, which we were completely ok with. This really was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had and I can’t wait to go back (hopefully next year). Cancun is by far my most favorite vacation spot and I am looking forward to many more trips and memories there both together and with our future little Riccis!

Ring a ding dings...

Since I already talked about my ring in my previous post, I decided to talk about Mike's ring because the story is more interesting. :)

Right after Mike and I became engaged, we went on a cruise. During one of our port stops in Cozumel, we decided to go look in some jewelry stores for wedding bands for me, since my ring didn't come with one. Instead we found a men's platinum comfort fit band with just a little bit of detailing. It was perfect for Mike and even though he was nervous about buying jewelry in Mexico, we splurged on it and we both love it. His ring even appraised for double what we paid for it so that was a nice bonus.

My band was custom made and it is now sautered to the engagement ring. I wasn't thrilled with the jeweler that made the band and actually need a few things on my ring fixed so if you know a good jeweler that does custom work, I would love their number. Also, I still highly suggest Costco and love that you can now buy solitaires there because when we got engaged they didn't sell single stones. I really should own stock in Costco. :)

Popping the Question...

3: Proposal: how it happened, how long were you engaged for? was it a total surprise? pictures of that... etc.

Our proposal story is kind of funny and yet embarrassing to tell all at the same time because I ruined his proposal plans not once, but TWICE! Mike and I had lived together for a year and a half and I was ready to get married. He was still nervous about making that commitment since he was still settling into his job and our new house and was not willing to buy me a ring until he could pay cash for it (that's Mike for you). I would drag him ring shopping with me, which only made him agitated and the price for what I wanted scared him to death. I finally started searching for rings at Costco (Mike’s favorite place), and found one I really loved for a great price. I forwarded him the picture and told him it was the ring I wanted. After that he began acting kind of weird about rings and marriage talk and I knew he had bought it. I tried to hack into his American Express statement and email (yes I am totally nosey like that), but I didn’t know his password and it locked him out. This was a red flag to him and he knew that I had been snooping, but wasn’t sure if I had seen that he had purchased my ring so he concocted an email from Costco saying the order had been cancelled to throw me off. He then decided that since I probably knew about the ring, instead of proposing on the cruise we were about to go on, which was his plan all along, he would try and surprise me with a proposal.

The day he decided to propose he was acting really weird and was asking what I needed to do that night. When I told him I needed to do homework he was kind of annoyed and so I thought “today is going to be the day”. I tried not to act too excited in case it didn’t happen so I went to my Sharing Place group and didn’t tell anyone what I thought. While I was there, he went to my parent’s house and asked my mom and brother if he could marry me. They of course said yes and he went home to wait for me. When I got home from group, my romantic side was expecting flowers and candlelight, but there wasn’t anything and since I had gotten my hopes up, I was devastated. I was so sad that instead of going down to the computer, I went to our bedroom, laid down and started crying. Mike came in and laid with me and asked what was wrong. I told him that I was sure he was going to propose and I was wrong again and at that moment he pulled out my engagement ring and told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. He wasn’t on one knee and it wasn’t a grand gesture, but it was us, perfectly imperfect. Later I found out he was planning to tie my ring to Mekah’s collar and have her come up to me while I was doing my homework and propose, but I had been too impatient to let that happen. I didn’t care though, we were engaged and I was going to marry my soul mate. I still tease him though that I want a new engagement story and want him to propose to me again. Someday I hope it happens :)

Fun fact- We became engaged on 4.19.06 at 419 E, our first home together. It was totally random and not planned but I love that there is a connection between the day and the address. We remained engaged for 14 months because I wanted a June wedding and we became husband and wife on 06.16.07.

When I knew...

2) When you knew he was the one: self explanatory.. but how and when did you know?

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when I knew he was the one, but I definitely began falling for him over chat. I loved how motivated, intelligent, humble, witty, responsible and thoughtful he was and I learned all about his friends, his college experiences, his family, his previous relationships, his sense of humor and his personality over chat. I think we both began to realize how perfect the other one was for us after hours of computer conversation and it felt as though we had known each other for years. The first time we kissed I felt weak at the knees and I knew it was something special and when he sent me two dozen roses after, my heart melted. I think what really solidified he was the one for me though was spending Christmas eve with my family and seeing how much he and my mom got along. He also made me feel alive again, made me giddy and my heart fluttered every time we were together or he called me and said, “hey champ”. He also was very sweet and the moment we became a couple, he made sure he saw me every day no matter what, which was huge to me since I would go without seeing my ex for days or weeks at a time. We spent New Years Eve 2004/2005 with one another at a Vans party with all of our friends and on a whim I told him I loved him. Luckily he said it back and from that moment on I knew he was going to be my husband some day and I was incredibly lucky to have found such an amazing man.

How we became The Riccis...

1. How it all began: how you met, first date, first kiss, how long did you date? first picture together.....etc.

Mike and I met on the 24th of July, 2004 at of all places, a party at Shon Stander’s. (For all of you who don't know Shon, he is infamous for having parties with many different kinds of people and I swear we are probably the only two people who made a connection there and lasted.) Mike had just graduated college and was living with Shon enjoying his single life and I was in a 4-year long committed relationship. On the 24th of July my boyfriend and I got into a huge fight and my best friend Laura, who I met through my ex and who had gone to church with Mike when they were younger, invited me to go to a party at Mike’s with her. I had heard a lot about this Mike guy because after he graduated and moved back to SLC, he and Laura bumped into each other and she reconnected him with a bunch of old friends and some great new ones and they became best buds. I remember I went to the party and was feeling really out of my element because I didn’t really know anyone and I wasn’t with my boyfriend, but I tried to enjoy myself. Shon has a wet bar in his basement and Mike’s favorite place was behind it, so I went up and sat at the bar and he introduced himself. We began talking and I could tell he was interested in me, but I had a boyfriend, so I dropped the “boyfriend” bomb. After that he shied away from me and we didn’t see or talk to each other again for a few months.

In November, the same thing happened. I got into a big fight with my boyfriend and was ready to break up. Laura again invited me to a party at Mike and Shon’s to celebrate Mike’s birthday. I was excited to go and see him again and this time we really clicked as the night went on. I even remember getting really jealous when the girl he was sort of dating showed up. At the end of the night we exchanged phone numbers and over the next month we began texting and seeing each other at random events. Also, since it was 2004, myspace had just come out and his work had not blocked it yet so we began myspace chatting every day until my boss came in. It felt like a high tech yet old fashioned getting to know you and I really began to fall for him, even though I was still in a relationship. In December we decided to meet up for dinner and buy Laura a Christmas present, which was really a cover for wanting to spend time alone together. We went to dinner at Macaroni Grille and went dutch on the bill, which I still tease him about (Mike says it wasn’t a date because I still had a boyfriend). After dinner we got together with some of my friends and his friends and the feelings we undeniably had for each other came to a head and we shared our first kiss on his deck overlooking the city. We hung out the next night as well and I knew I needed to break up with my boyfriend. On Tuesday December 21st, 2004 I ended my 4-year relationship and Mike and I have been inseparable ever since. Our relationship became very serious quickly, even spending the holidays with my family and his and on the 26th of December as we were driving to a Christmas party, we became official. Neither of us has looked back since.

Now I know this story makes me sound like I am a cheater, which I was at that time, but I was in a very turbulent and unhealthy relationship for 4 years that I was scared to leave. He had been my first love and we had been through so much together but the second I realized who I could be with Mike, I knew that Aaron and I were not meant to be. Mike and I had a deeper more fulfilling connection within the first month of our relationship than I ever shared with Aaron and I couldn’t imagine life without him. I regret that I hurt someone in the process of falling in love with Mike but I knew I had to follow my heart and my mind would soon catch up. It's still the best decision I ever made!

3 Years 9 Months...

I decided to abandon the 30 day blog challenge for a minute and take on this new "Wedding Blog Challenge" that I saw on a friend's blog. I absolutely loved our wedding, the years leading up to it and have cherished the 3 years and 9 months since. I thought this would be a good way to relive our story and share pictures with people who were unable to attend. But I had to post this picture because it just melts my heart.

We had the opportunity to watch Annie and Justin’s boys this weekend while they traveled on a much needed vacation to Hawaii. We had so much fun and while it was an eye-opening experience (seriously Annie, Mike thinks you are superwoman now), it just reiterated how ready we are for this and how badly we want to be parents. Mike was incredibly adorable with both Mason and Cole, totally helpful and even watched Mason by himself while I took Cole to Disney on Ice. He didn’t even call me ONCE (he credited Annie’s very detailed note which was a lifesaver but I think he is better than he gives himself credit for). He is going to make an amazing dad and watching him being so caring to Cole and Mason made me fall in love with him all over again. We and the boys had a great time enjoying the spring-time weather, building forts, playing at Chic-Fil-A, watching Megamind, baking cookies, making Mase giggle, playing with the dogs, going to Disney on Ice and Mike and I loved spending time together with little ones around. We were both tired by the end of the weekend and our house felt a little emptier after I dropped them off Monday. Getting a text from Mike saying “You will be a GREAT mom!” made my weekend though and made it all worth it. Thanks Annie and Justin for letting us play faux Aunty and Uncle to your boys. They are just the cutest and left us with lots of funny stories and quotes and we can’t wait for another play date.

I really love songs with amazing lyrics you can understand and apply to your own life. You know the songs that make you tingle when you listen to them? I never realized how much of an impact music has on one's life but in the past few years I have realized what an art music is and the importance of it in my life. Current Obsessions...

Here are a few of my current obsessions...

Chicks, Ducks and Bunnies Sweetarts- I wait all year for these delights. They are by far my favorite sweetarts because they only come in purple, blue and red and they are really soft and flaky. I bought two bags yesterday and I am sure I will be buying plenty more before Easter comes.

French inspired plate from Black Goose-My guest bathroom has needed something on the counter to make it look complete and more inviting. I found this plate at Black Goose for $15.00 the day we bought our new bedroom set and I love it. The goodies on top are thanks to Mike's many business travels and my sweet boss Steph from TSP.

Vivite Exfoliating Facial Cleanser- Mike and I volunteered at Women On The Move a few weeks ago, which is a champagne luncheon and fashion show to support the MS Society. Everyone who came was gifted a nice swag bag, which included this awesome cleanser. There were a few left so I was able to snag one too and I am in love. The granules are small and it's already done wonders for my skin. Highly suggest if you can get past the $39.00 price tag. I am using this pretty sparingly!

Throw Pillows from JC Penney- I am all about comfort in my home so you will always find a thousand pillows and blankets. I have been looking for the perfect blue pillows we can lay on to compliment my other decorative pillows that you are not allowed to lay on. I found these a little while ago and love them. They are super soft, a great color and I love the texture. Not to mention they are ridiculously comfortable and were only $15.00 each! Now I can finally get rid of the gold pillows I force Mike to stuff under the couch when they are not in use.

The Body Shop Pomegranate and Raspberry Body, Room and Linen Spray-I love the fruity aroma of this spray and it makes me so excited for springtime. Plus Mike loves it too!Kelly Ray Roberts and this painting- I have been obsessed with Kelly Ray Roberts for a while now and finally broke down and bought the painting below after finding it in a consignment shop.
